Junior Lucas Shumate finishes 10th in the hammer throw on the final day of the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships

WAVERLY, Iowa — Junior Lucas Shumate finiahed 10th in the hammer throw on Saturday on the final day of the NCAA Divsion III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Walston-Hoover Stadium on the campus of Wartburg College.
Shumate was tenth with a toss of 182 feet 5.75 inches. The throw came on his third attempt after progressively improving throughout the first two attempts.
The junior entered the meet ranked 11th with a season best pitch of 187 feet 2 inches.
On Friday, sophomore Matt Molinaro competed in the 800-meter run, winning his heat in what would have been a stadium record 1:49.53, but was disqualified by meet officials after he ran on his inside lane line on the opening turn.
The Polar Bears finished the regular season 71-8 overall and were second as the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships.
