Lucas Shumate leads Men's Track & Field team at North Central (Ill.) Keeler Invitational

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Sophomore Lucas Shumate posted a pair of top-5 finishes to lead the Ohio Northern men's outdoor track and field team at the non-scoring North Central (Ill.) Keeler Invitational Thursday and Friday at the Buikema Track.
The Polar Bears (57-5 overall) had nine individuals and a relay team compete in the meet, which lasted into the early morning hours on Saturday due to weather delays.
Shumate finished fourth in the discus with a season-best heave of 151' 4" and was fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 181' 3", which tied his previous season-best effort.
Freshman Matt Molinaro placed sixth out of 79 runners in the 800-meter run in a season-low 1:52.64.
Senior Phil Farwig had a pair of top-10 finishes, placing seventh in the shot with a heave of 49' 3/4", and placing ninth in the hammer with a throw of 153' 3".
Senior Jonathan Roseler finished eighth in the 400 in a season-best :49.21.
Three other Polar Bears had solid finishes, posting season-best times in the process.
Sophomore Aaren Hemmelgarn was 12th of 97 runners in he 5000 in 15:05.32, sophomore Kase Schalois was 15th in the 3000 steeplechase in 9:26.13 and senior Kyle Wagner was 24th of 85 runners in he 1500 in 3:58.66.
Freshman Brandon Emert was 20th in the 400 hurdles in 1:00.52 and ONU's 4x400 relay team was seventh in 3:19.62.
Ohio Northern will wrap up its regular season next Thursday-Friday at the North Central GregoryInvitational at the same venue.
