Sophomore Dan Arkin leads Men's Track and Field to a second place finish at the Polar Bear Invitational

ADA – Sophomore Dan Arkin won the javelin throw to lead the Ohio Northern men's track and field team to a second place finish of 12 teams while competing in the Polar Bear Invitational at Kerscher Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Northern improves its record to 49-4 on the year.
Findlay won the meet with 172.50 points, followed by ONU in second with 138.50 points and Tiffin in third with 98.83 points.
This was the first outdoor meet that the Polar Bears have hosted since 2008.
Arkin took first place in the javelin throw with a throw of 57.04 meters.
Also in the javelin throw, freshman Luke Bogdanovich took fifth place with a throw of 47.17 meters.
In the 1500-meter run, senior Nathan Rosenbaum took second place with a time of 4:07.37.
Senior Ryan Brancheau took second place in high jump with a personal best of 2.06 meters.
In the 110 hurdles, junior Robbie Brinkman took second place finishing in a time of 15.47 seconds while freshman Matt Craven took third with a time of 15.79 seconds.
Junior Christian Rupe finished second in the 100-meter dash in 10.99 seconds.
In the 800-meter run four Polar Bears placed in the top five. Freshman Matt Molinaro took second place in 1:53.15, senior Kyle Wagner finished third in 1:56.88 and sophomore Andrew Harden took fourth place in 1:58.01.
Rupe also took third place in the 200-meter dash in 22.37 seconds.
Freshman Samuel Boyd took third place in the 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing in 10:31.78.
In the 400-meter dash senior Jonathan Roseler took third place with a time of 49.29 seconds.
Junior Brandon Ike took third place in pole vault for Northern after clearing a height of 4.31 meters.
In the hammer throw, sophomore Lucas Shumate finished fourth with a throw of 54.50 meters.
Freshman William Wilson tied for fourth in the high jump with a jump of 1.88 meters.
Brancheau also claimed a fourth place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 13.07 meters.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Harden, Molinaro, sophomore Ian McKee, and junior Dan Sowa took fifth in 3:38.01.
"It was nice to be able to host such a big meet and showcase our facilities," said head track and field coach Jason Maus. "We had great performances all around and great weather to compete in."
The Polar Bears will return to the track Friday as they travel to Alliance for Day 1 of the OAC Championships with field events scheduled to start at noon and running events scheduled to start at 4:10 pm at the Mount Union Stadium.
