Men's Track & Field opens outdoor season with solid showing at Washington & Lee (Va.) Carnival

LEXINGTON, Va. — Sophomore Kase Schalois won the 3,000-meter steeplechase to lead the Ohio Northern men's outdoor track and field team at the Washington & Lee Carnival Friday and Saturday.
The 10-team meet was not scored.
Schalois won the event in 9:41.59.
The 4x100 relay team of freshmen Denorris Turner and Matt Craven and juniors Christian Rupe and Jojuan Fisher won the race in :42.70.
Nine other Polar Bears posted top-3 finishes in the meet, led by sophomore Lucas Shumate.
Shumate was second in the discus with a toss of 142' 5" and was second in the hammer throw with a heave of 171' 1".
Freshman Matt Molinaro was second in the 1500 run in 4:01.03 and was third in the 800 run in 1:53.97.
Senior Phil Farwig was second in the shot put with a heave of 48' 11 3/4".
Senior Ryan Brancheau and freshman William Wilson finished 2-3 in the high jump, clearing 6' 3 1/4" and 6' 1 1/4", respectively.
Seniors Jonathan Roseler and Nathan Rosenbaum, junior Brandon Ike and sophomore A.J. Cody also had third place finishes.
Roseler was third in the 400 dash in :50.08, Rosenbaum was third in the 5000 run in 15:00.15, Ike was third in the pole vault by clearing 14' 5 1/2" and Cody was third in the discus with a toss of 128' 10".
The 4x400 relay team of Rupe, freshman Conner Karg, senior James Rader and Roesler finished second in 3:20.71.
The Polar Bears will return to action next Saturday at the Cedarville Invitational.
