Track & Field competes at UW-Stevens Point Qualifer ahead of NCAAs next weekend

STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- Several members of both track & field teams competed at Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Pointer Qualifer on Saturday.
There were no teams scores; the focus of the meet was to give teams and indivduals the opportunity to qualify for the national meet next weekend.
For the women, senior Aubrie Stechschulte finished tied for second in the pole vault, clearing 11-7. Sophomore Vicki Moga finished tied for ninth in the high jump at 5-0.25.
On the men's side, freshman Ryan Brancheau took fifth in the high jump (6-4), while in other field events, senior Joe Gutter finished ninth in the weight throw at 54-2.50.
Sophomore Evan McKee finished the 800 run in 1:55.60 for seventh place, and junior Michael Simmons finished eighth in the 5,000 run in 15:43.30.
Sophomore Francisque Pierre-Jerome competed in the preliminaries of the 60 dash, finishing 11th in 7.09.
The DMR team of seniors Jacob Schwab, Cory Bailey and Dan Smith, and junior Ben Ankrom finished sixth in 10:06.39.
Northern finds out which members make the field for the 2012 NCAA Track & Field Championships on Monday morning. The national event will be held at Grinnell (Iowa), Friday and Saturday, March 9-10.
