Men's Track & Field wins fifth consecutive OAC Indoor Championships title

WESTERVILLE – Seniors Jacob Schwab, Dan Smith and Cory Bailey, and sophomore Francisque Pierre-Jerome each won three events to lead the Ohio Northern men's track and field team to their fifth consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship Friday-Saturday at Otterbein.
The Polar Bears (30-2) notched 152 points to capture the title.
Schwab won the 400-meter dash in 49.51. The senior sprinter teamed up with Pierre-Jerome and freshmen Chad Bridges and Jonathan Roseler to capture the 4x200 relay in 1:29.61.
Schwab also won the 4x400 relay with Bridges, Bailey and sophomore Evan McKee in 3:24.55.
Pierre-Jerome took the 60-meter dash in 7:03. The sophomore also won the 200-meter dash in 22.58.
Bailey also won the 800 run (1:55.75), while McKee finished third in 1:57.39.
Smith earned victories in the 1,000-meter run, 1-mile run and 3,000-meter run. Smith won the 1,000-meter run in 2:31.95 and captured the 1-mile run in 4:17.28. Junior Ben Ankrom finished third in the 1-mile rune with a time of 4:22.63.
Smith won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:38.04.
Bailey, McKee and Ankrom teamed up with sophomore Mathew Johnson to win the men's distance medley in 10:27.13
Senior Joe Gutter finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 17.08 Freshman Ryan Brancheau took third in the high jump.
The Polar Bears return to action on March 9 – 10 at the NCAA Championships in Grinnell, Iowa.
The selections for the Championships are expected to be announced sometime on Monday.
