Ryan Fleming leads Men's Outdoor Track & Field at Washington & Lee Carnival
LEXINGTON, Va. — Senior Ryan Fleming notched two wins and a second-place finish to lead the Ohio Northern Men's Track and Field team at the non-scoring Washington & Lee Carnival 2011 on Friday and Saturday.
Fleming broke the meet record in the 100-meter dash, winning in 10.91 to break the old record of 10.97.
He also finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.40.
In the 4x100 relay, Fleming teamed with freshman Francisque Pierre-Jerome, senior Evan Heyman and junior Jacob Schwab to win in 41.90, breaking the meet record and edging the Division III provisional time of 41.97.
The Polar Bears also won the 4x400 relay, as Heyman and Schwab teamed with junior Shane Huntley and senior Garrett Brown, breaking the meet record time of 3:18.74 by winning in 3:18.04.
ONU had two top-five finishers in the 1500-meter run as junior Dan Smith was third in 3:58.44 and sophomore Ben Ankrom crossed in fifth with a time of 4:00.63.
Ankrom and Smith also finished in fourth and sixth place in the 800-meter, with times of 1:55.46 and 1:56.20, just behind junior Cory Bailey's second place time of 1:54.97.
Huntley added a pair of top-ten finishes in the 200 and 400-meter dashes, finishing eighth in 23.09 and ninth in 51.50.
The Polar Bears will be back in action on April 2, with an Ohio Athletic Conference Split Meet at Wilmington at 11 am.
