Men's Track & Field opens up 2010 indoor season with second-place finish at Friday Night Series #1
ADA - The Ohio Northern men's track and field team finished second overall behind a 1-2-3 finish in the mile from sophomore Dan Smith, senior Alan Bowsher, and freshman Ben Ankrom at the ONU Sports Center Friday night to open the 2010 indoor season.
Smith finished in 4:22.53, Bowsher finished in 4:27.37, and Ankrom finished in 4:28.63.
Northern, whose record moves to 4-1, finished with 168 points, which was right behind Findlay who finished in first with 192 points.
Northern's distance runners had six individuals place in the top-three between the 1,000-meter, mile, and 5,000-meter.
Sophomore Nick Baker finished first in the 1,000-meter in a time of 2:38.26.
Sophomore Tobias Deardorff and junior Jared Simon finished second and third, respectively, in the 5,000-meter.
Deardorff finished in a time of 16:18.76 and Simon finished in 16:24.06.
Northern's 4X400-relay team, consisting of junior Garrett Brown, sophomore Jacob Schwab, junior Evan Heyman, and Smith, finished in third place in a time of 3:29.46.
Schwab finished the 400-meter dash in a time of 51.27 for a third-place finish.
Senior Jacob Weyrauch and junior Andy Lammers finished in second and third, respectively, in the pole vault.
Weyrauch and Lammers both cleared the jump at 14-6.
In the triple jump, sophomore Jarred Stevens finished in second place with a jump of 38-9.5, while senior Anthony Thomas finished right behind him with a jump of 38-2.
In the 800-meter, sophomore Corey Bailey finished in third place with a time of 2:01.2.
Ohio Northern will compete again next Friday, January 22, at the Findlay Invitational.
