Five field event victories lead Men's Track & Field to second-place finish at OAC Split Meet
WILMINGTON - The Ohio Northern men's track & field team earned five individual first-place finishes as the team finished second with 128 points at the Ohio Athletic Conference Split Meet hosted by Wilmington.
The Polar Bears are now 8-2 on the year, as Heidelberg won the five-team event with 211 points.
Joe Gutter led the way with two first-place finishes and a third-place finish to lead the way. Gutter was first in the shot put (43-7) and hammer throw (140-11), while he was was third in the discus (125-9).
Tony Thomas also had three top-three finishes in the same events as Gutter. Thomas was first in the discus with a throw of 132-9, second in the shot put with a throw of 43-6 and third in the hammer throw in the 130-6.
Tim Polack and Jacob Weyrauch also earned first-place finishes in field events. Polack won the javelin with a throw of 155-2 and Weyrauch won the pole vault by clearing 14-5.50.
Bryan Miller joined Weyrauch in the pole vault with a third-place finish by clearing 13-11.75.
Garrett Brown and Ryan Fleming each recorded a first- and a second-place finish.
Brown won the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 55.99 and was second in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.77. Fleming won the 200-meter dash in 22.86 and was second in the 100-meter dash in 11.37.
In the 800-meter run, Joe Amstutz finished second in 1:57.72.
Ohio Northern will compete next Saturday at the Mount Union Invitational.
