Weyrauch wins the pole vault to lead Men's Outdoor Track & Field at All-Ohio Championships
DELAWARE — The Ohio Northern men's track and field team finished fourth of 19 teams at the All-Ohio Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday.
The Polar Bears finished with 78 points behind Ohio Wesleyan with 143, Heidelberg with 108 and Baldwin-Wallace with 85 points.
The top four finish was led by senior Jacob Weyrauch who finished in first place in the pole vault. Weyrauch's winning vault was 15-1.
Junior Joe Gutter had the next best result out of the field events by placing fifth in the hammer throw. His toss traveled a total of 152-5.
Leading the ONU men's runners was junior Ryan Fleming with a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash. His time of 10.95 seconds was only .01 seconds behind the first place finisher.
Fleming also ran on the 4X100 meter relay team that got fifth. The relay squad, also consisting of sophomores Travis Althouse, Jake Schaeffer and Jarrod Stevens, ran the event in 43.29 seconds.
Senior Joe Amstutz grabbed two third-place finishes by running the 400-meter dash in 49.56 seconds and competing on the 4X400 meter relay that fell short to only Heidelberg and Ohio Wesleyan by less than a second. Juniors Garrett Brown, Shane Huntley and Evan Heyman completed the relay team that ran the event in 3:19.28.
Brown also finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.40 seconds.
In the long distance events, junior Jacob Schoenlein placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run in 15:31.56.
The 1,500-meter run had two ONU top finishers with sophomore Dan Smith and freshman Ben Ankrom coming in fourth and fifth places, respectively. Smith ran the event in 3:57.61, while Ankrom finished close behind in 3:59.98.
Ankrom also had a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.73.
The Polar Bears will travel to Berea next weekend to compete at the Baldwin-Wallace Invitational on Saturday.
