Men's Tennis grabs pair of 5-4 victories on Day 2 of Transylvania (Ky.) Winter Invite

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team wrapped up the Transylvania (Ky.) Winter Invite with a a pair of tight 5-4 loss victories indoors on Sunday.
Northern began the day with a thrilling 5-4 victory over PU Sunday morning and followed with a 5-4 win against host TU on Sunday afternoon.

- Records: Ohio Northern (6-3), Piedmont (2-1), Transylvania (4-3)
- Venue: Top Seed Tennis Center - Nicholasville, Ky.
The Matches
- Junior Peyton Specht (Munster, Ind.) and freshman Tyler Wood (Toledo/St. John's Jesuit) went 2-0 at No. 2 doubles and Wood finished the day 4-0 with a pair of wins at No. 6 singles to lead the Polar Bears.
- Sophomore T.J. Schultz (Grand Blanc, Mich.) won three consecutive points to rally from a 10-9 deficit to win his third-set tiebreaker 12-10, giving ONU the victory over PU.
- The Polar Bears trailed 2-1 after singles play, against PU, but won singles courts 3,4,5 and 6 to grab the win.
- Against TU, Northern won at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to lead 2-1.
- Schultz and Wood then won at Nos. 2 and 6 singles to put ONU ahead 4-3.
- Freshman Ashton Hesson (Grand Blanc, Mich.) won 6-4, 7-6 at No. 3 sinlges to clinch the match at 5-3 against Transy.
Notables
- The Polar Bears are now 1-0 all-time against Piedmont and are 4-0 against Transylvania.
- Second-year head coach Sean Swisher is now 19-11 at the helm of the ONU men's tennis team, a winning percentage of 67.
