Men's Tennis opens season with 8-1 wins over Adrian (Mich.), Ohio Wesleyan in doubleheader

DELAWARE — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team opened its fall 2023 schedule with 8-1 wins over Adrian (Mich.) and Ohio Wesleyan in a doubleheader hosted by OWU on Saturday.
The Basics

ONU v Adrian match
- The Polar Bears won every court except No. 1 singles.
- Junior Peyton Specht (Munster, Ind.) led the way for ONU with two victories in the match, winning 8-2 at No. 2 doubles and 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.
- Four freshmen earned their first career collegiate victories. Tyler Wood (Toledo/St. John's Jesuit) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, Ashton Hesson (Grand Blanc, Mich.) won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, Kessler Hackenberger (Tipp City/Tippecanoe) won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles, and Kosuke Asada (Findlay) won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
ONU v Ohio Wesleyan match
- The Polar Bears won every court except No. 1 doubles.
- The singles matches were shortened due to darkness.
- Junior Drew Swisher (Findlay) played the longest singles match, winning the first set 6-0 before falling 0-6 in the second set and winning the tiebreaker 12-10.
- Wood, Hackenberger, Hesson, seniors Kavya Desai (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and Isaac Spar (Ada), junior Sam Sran (Punjab, India/St. Stephens and Gian Jyoti Global) and sophomores T.J. Schultz (Grand Blanc, Mich.), Nico Rogel (Alicante, Spain/Hoosac) and Aaron Davis (Tipp City/Tippecanoe) earned one victory each in the match.
