Men's Tennis sweeps Baldwin Wallace 9-0 for key road victory

BEREA — Freshman Kavya Desai (Bloomfield Hills, Mich) posted a pair of shutouts at No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles to lead the Ohio Northern men's tennis team to a 9-0 victory at Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday afternoon at the Pop Collins Tennis Courts.
The Polar Bears improve to 3-2 overall and are 3-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-1, 1-1.
Desai won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and joined with sophomore Maxim Smith (Medina) to win 8-0 at No. 3 doubles for ONU.
Senior Joji Imatomi (Yokohama, Japan/Kamakura Gakuen) and junior Zach Beaschler (Ada) also won 6-0, 6-0 at Nos. 6 and 3 singles, respectively.
Senior Vinh Thai (Galloway/St. Charles) and sophomore Matt Garcia (Downers Grove, Ill/South) won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, while Beaschler and junior Andrew Cochran (Wooster) won 8-1 at No. 2 doubles as ONU led 3-0 after doubles play.
In singles play, Thai won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, Cochran won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 and freshman Isaac Spar (Ada) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5.
The Polar Bears can clinch a spot in the 4-team OAC Tournament with a victory over Mount Union in their regular season finale on April 24.
