Men's Tennis tops Capital 8-1 on Senior Day

LIMA — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team celebrated Senior Day with an 8-1 victory over Capital on Friday afternoon at the Westwood Tennis Center.
The Polar Bears (2-0 overall, 2-0 Ohio Athletic Conference) honored its two seniors Joji Imatomi (Yokohama, Japan/Kamakura Gakue) and Vinh Thai (Galloway/St. Charles) prior to the match.
Juniors Andrew Cochran (Wooster) and Zach Beaschler (Ada) led ONU by accounting for three victories each.
Cochran won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, Beascher won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and the duo combined to win 8-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Freshman Kavya Desai (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and sophomore Maxim Smith (Medina) also won three times between them.
Desai won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles, Smith won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and they combined to win 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Imatomi won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles and Thai and sophomore Matt Garcia (Downers Grove, Ill./South) won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.
The Polar Bears will return to action Wednesday with a home match against Otterbein.
