Men's Tennis opens 2021 season with sweep at Marietta

MARIETTA — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team opened its 2021 season with a 9-0 sweep at Marietta on Saturday afternoon at the Beran Tennis center.
The Polar Bears improve to 1-0 overall and are 1-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Pioneers fall to 0-2, 0-2.
Juniors Andrew Cochran (Wooster) and Zach Beaschler (Ada) led ONU by accounting for three victories.
Cochran won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Beascher won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and the duo combined to win 8-3 at No.1 doubles.
Freshman Kavya Desai (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and joined sophomore Matt Garcia (Downers Grove, Ill./South) to win 8-1 at No. 2 doubles.
Sophomore Maxim Smith (Medina) won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, freshman Isaac Spar (Ada) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and the two men joined forces to win 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.
Senior Joji Imatomi (Yokohama, Japan/Kamakura Gakuen) wrapped up the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Friday with a home match against Capital at 1 pm.
