Men's Tennis sweeps doubles courts, posts 8-1 victory at Capital

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team swept the three doubles matches and won five of the six singles courts to post an 8-1 victory at Capital on Monday afternoon at the Scarborough East Racquet Club.
The Polar Bears improve to 8-6 overall and are 2-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Crusaders fall to 2-5, 0-2.
Northern got off to a quick start by sweeping the three doubles matches.
Sophomore Connor Christian (Gallipolis/Gallia Academy) and junior Jake Abbott (Kenton) won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles and junior Tim Kargl (Downers Grove, Ill./South) and sophomore Andrew Garcia (Downers Grove, Ill./South) quickly followed with an 8-3 win at No. 2 to make it 2-0.
At No. 1 doubles, freshman Vinh Thai (Galloway/St. Charles) teamed up with fellow freshman Hoang Do (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) to post a 9-8(4) victory to complete the sweep.
In singles play, Kargl won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 and Abbott won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 to clinch the match for Ohio Northern.
Sophomore Tyler Frantz (Bellefontaine) won 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 at No. 6 singles. to extend the lead to 6-0.
After Cu won at No. 2 singles, Christian and Thai won in thred-set tiebreakers at Nos. 3 and 1 singles, respectively, to wrap up the match.
"Today was a great win against a quality team that has beaten us five consecutive seasons," ONU head coach Mikle Bonnell said. "This is the type of intensity and progress that we are looking for."
Northern will return home on Wednesday for a 4 pm contest with Baldwin Wallace.
