Men's Tennis sweeps Penn State-Harrisburg 9-0; falls to NAIA foe Spring Arbor (Mich.) 6-2 on first day of Spring Break trip

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team opened its Spring Break trip with a 9-0 win over Penn State-Harrisburg on Monday night at Hilton Head Beach & Tennis courts and a 6-2 loss to NAIA foe Spring Arbor (Mich.) on Monday morning at the Evian Tennis Center.
The Polar Bears move to 5-2, while the Lions fall to 1-6 and the Cougars improve to 9-4.
Freshman Hoang Do (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) picked up four victories on the day to lead ONU.
He won 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 and 4-6, 6-2, 10-6 at No. 2 singles and combined with freshman Vinh Thai (Galloway/St. Charles) to win 8-6 and 8-1 at No. 1 doubles to account for four of the Polar Bear points.
Thai also won at No. 1 singles against the Lions 6-0, 6-0 and won his opening set 6-2 at No. 1 singles against Spring Arbor, but the match was stopped in the second set due to time constraints, to finish 3-0 on the day.
Against PSUH, sophomore Connor Christian (Gallipolis/Gallia Academy) won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, junior Tim Kargl (Downers Grove, Ill./South) won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, sophomore Tyler Frantz (Bellefontaine) won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 singles and senior Cody Hurley (Centerville) won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
Kargl and Hurley win 8-1 at No. 2 doubles and Christian and freshman Drew Sarno (Elida) won 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Wednesday with a 12:30 pm match against Nebraska Wesleyan at the Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center in Hilton Head Iland.
