Saunders and King win respective singles divisions to lead Men’s Tennis at Kerry Seward Invitational
CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Sophomore Josh Saunders and junior Mike King won the No. 4 and No. 6 singles flights, respectively, to lead the Ohio Northern men's tennis team to a second place finish at the Kerry Seward Invitational hosted by Wabash (Ind.) Saturday and Sunday.
Carthage (Wisc.) won the tournament with 64 points. The Polar Bears came in second with 59 and Coe (Iowa) rounded out the top three
Every ONU player finished in the top four of their respective flights.
Saunders defeated Mike Woolf of Coe in the finals by a 6-4, 6-4 score. He would also team up with senior Nick Kowalczyk to post a second place finish at No. 2 doubles.
Kowalczyk also posted a third place finish at No. 3 singles.
King lost just two games in his first two matches before pulling out a 6-0, 6-7 (0-7), 6-2 win in the finals.
Junior Joey Frank and senior Michael Kathary would pick up a second place finish at No. 1 doubles.
Kathary finished second at No. 2 singles while Frank notched a third place finish at No. 1 singles.
Senior Andrew Korba and freshman Sam Prewitt teamed up to finish fourth at No. 3 doubles. Korba would also finish fourth at No. 5 singles.
Ohio Northern will be in action again on Wednesday when they travel to Westerville to face off against Otterbein at 3:30 p.m.
