Men's Tennis blanks Marietta 9-0, stays unbeaten in OAC

ADA — The Ohio Northern men's tennis team remained unbeaten in Ohio Athletic Conference action this season with a 9-0 win over Marietta Saturday afternoon at University Courts.
The Polar Bears better their record to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference while the Pioneers move to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the OAC.
Junior Jeff Carter did not lose a game on the day as he defeated Andrew Bolton at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-0 and teamed up with sophomore Andrew Korba in No. 2 doubles for an 8-0 victory over Mike Carpenter and Ryan Wong.
"Today was a satisfying victory as we played like we know we should," Carter said. "It was good to stay undefeated in the OAC and this was a step in the right direction for myself and the team as a whole."
Sophomore Nick Kowalczyk also did not drop a game as well as he picked up a No. 1 singles win over Jost Patterson 6-0, 6-0 and joined freshman Joey Frank to defeat Patterson and Bolton 8-0 in their No. 1 doubles match.
In No. 2 singles play, Frank defeated Wong 6-1, 6-2.
Korba picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Carpenter in No. 4 singles action.
Junior Kyle Barnaba won 6-0, 6-1 in his No. 5 singles match against Taimur Ahmed.
In the No. 6 singles match, sophomore Matt Dutro defeated Will Jaques 6-0, 6-2.
The duo of Barnaba and Dutro won 8-2 over Ahmed and Jaques in No. 3 doubles action.
In a No. 7 singles exhibition match, Ohio Northern freshman Matt Madsen defeated Abdul Sheikh 8-2.
The Polar Bears are back in action Tuesday as they travel to Heidelberg for a 3:30 pm match.
