Men's Tennis runs win streak to 11, moves atop OAC with 7-2 win at John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The Ohio Northern men's tennis team ran its winning streak to 11 straight matches with a 7-2 road victory over John Carroll at Purvis Park in an Ohio Athletic Conference match Friday afternoon.
The Polar Bears improve to 13-2 overall and move into a first place tie with Mount Union in the OAC with a 6-0 record, while the Blue Streaks move to 3-6 overall and 3-3 in the OAC.
In No. 1 doubles action, ONU sophomore Nick Kowalcayk and freshman Joey Frank defeated Ryan Mullaney and Chad Ruehs 9-8 (7-3).
The ONU duo of Jeff Carter and sophomore Andrew Korba won 8-6 over Alex Millar and Matt Tomayko in No. 2 doubles play.
"I am very pleased with how well our doubles teams performed today," ONU coach Bob Rohan said. "Every match was within one break all the time and I am glad that we were able to pull through with a 2-1 lead. As a team our challenge is still ahead of us and we still need to show up for every match."
In No. 1 singles, Frank came back to defeat Mullaney 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Kowalczyk won in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 over Millar in the No. 2 singles match.
Korba won his No. 4 singles match 6-2, 6-3 by defeating Michael Hulseman.
Ohio Northern junior Kyle Barnaba won 6-4, 5-7, 10-7 over Ross Venzke in No. 5 singles action.
In the No. 6 singles match ONU freshman Mike King had the most convincing win of the day as he defeated Tomayko 6-1, 6-2.
The Polar Bears' scheduled match for Saturday at Muskingum has been postponed to Thursday at a time TBA.
Ohio Northern will again be in action on Tuesday as it hosts Wilmington at 3:30 pm.
