Men’s Swimming and Diving posts 11 first-place finishes in 160.5-133.5 win at Mount Union

ALLIANCE — The Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team posted first-place finishes in 11 of 16 events en route to a 160.5-133.5 win at Ohio Athletic Conference foe Mount Union on Saturday afternoon at Hammond Natatorium.
The Polar Bears improve to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the OAC while dropping the Purple Raiders to 2-3, 0-3.
Freshman Selby Wilt (Findlay) led the way for ONU with four first-place finishes to go with three from freshman Nathan Clark (Cleves/Elder).
Wilt won the 50 free in :21.41 and the 100 free in :48.37, and he joined Clark as part of the top-finishing 200 medley relay and 400 free relay teams.
Clark and Wilt joined fifth-year senior Jackson Stanley (Beavercreek) and freshman Aiden Magoolaghan (Hinckley/Highland) to win the 200 medley relay in 1:37.86 and joined sophomore Brady Horgan (New Richmond/McNicholas) and freshman Carter Detweiler (Newton, Pa./Council Rock) to win the 400 free relay in 3:14.04.
Clark also won the 100 breast, doing so in 1:01.95.
Stanley added a first-place finish in the 100 fly in :52.28 and was third in the 200 fly with a time of 2:00.81.
Detweiler also had a top finish in the 200 free, posting a time of 1:47.28, and he placed second in the 500 free in 4:58.49.
Horgan was second in the 50 free in :22.27 and was third in the 100 free in :48.86.
Sophomore Holden Cubberley (Celina), junior Charlie Spyker (Harrod/Shawnee) and freshman Tyler Edmonds (Youngsville, La./Southside) each posted a first- and second-place finish.
Cubberley was first in the 1-meter diving with 186.45 points and second in the 3-meter diving with 247.27 points.
Spyker was first in the 3-meter diving with 263.77 points and second in the 1-meter diving with 166.42 points.
Edmonds won the 200 breast in 2:20.34 and was second in the 200 IM in 2:04.56.
Senior Calob Cope (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) won the 1,000 free in 10:12.00 and was third in the 500 free in 4:58.80.
Freshman Simon Bopple (Cleveland/Shaker Heights) tied for second in the 100 back in :56.04 and was third in the 200 back in 2:04.81.
Freshman Long Huynh (Billings, Mt./West) finished second in the 200 fly in 2:00.64.
Sophomore Ben Starling (Mansfield/Lexington) rounded out ONU's list of top-three finishes with a third-place showing in the 200 breast in 2:27.18.
The Polar Bears return to action on Friday in a tri-meet at Ohio Wesleyan with Bluffton at 6 p.m.
