Men's Swimming and Diving drops 181-103 decision at No. 18-ranked John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — Senior Calob Cope (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) swept the distance free events, leading the Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team in a 181-103 loss at No. 18-ranked John Carroll on Saturday at Johnson Natatorium.
The Polar Bears fall to 1-1 overall and are 1-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Blue Streaks improve to 1-0, 1-0.
Cope won the 1000 free in 10:18.14 and the 500 free in 5:00.62.
Senior Jackson Stanley (Beavercreek) won the 200 fly in 2:00.54, with Cope in second place in 2:05.97.
Sophomore Holden Cubberley (Celina) won the 1-meter diving with 289.35 points, while junior teammate Charlie Spyker (Harrod/Shawnee) was second with 190.80 points.
Cubberley won the 3-meter diving unopposed with 272.78 points as JCU did not enter any divers in the meet.
Freshman Carter Detweiler (Newton, Pa./Council Rock) was second in the 500 free behind Cope in 5:01.69.
The Polar Bears will return to action Friday-Saturday at the Calvin (Mich.) Quad Meet.
