Adams and Cubberly win events, lead Men's Swimming and Diving to a third place finish on final day of Wooster Invitational

WOOSTER — Senior Jeremy Adams (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) and freshman Holden Cubberley (Celina) each won events to lead the Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team on the final day of the Wooster Invitational on Saturday.
The Polar Bears (2-1 overall) finished third out of eight teams with 1555 points in the 20 events.
Adams won the 200 breast in 2:06.89, completing the breast events sweep after winning the 100 breast on Friday. Sophomore Wes Richards (Pinckney, Mich.) finished right behind Adams in 2:11.62 and freshman Ben Starling (Mansfield/Home Schooled) was fourth in 2:12.33 as ONU dominated the event.
Freshman Holden Cubberley (Celina) won the 1-meter diving with 452.95 points after finishing third in the 3-meter diving on Friday. Sophomore Evan Sailor (Goshen, Ind.) was eighth with 339.15 points.
After winning the 100 fly on Friday, sophomore Ben Lacey (Lebanon) finished second in the 200 fly on Saturday in 1:53.93. Senior Jackson Stanley (Beavercreek) was fifth in the event in 1:57.15.
Junior Calob Cope (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) was second in the 1650 free in 16:33.97, giving him three top-3 finishes in the meet. Freshman Nathan Gibbs (Parker, Colo./Legend) was seventh in the event in 17:33.68 and sophomore Patrick Wellman (Dublin/Jerome) was eighth in 17:35.48.
Freshman Brady Horgan (New Richmond/McNicholas) and senior Mike Lewandowski (Shelby Township, Mich./Eisenhower) finished third and eighth in the 100 free in :46.94 and :49.27, respectively.
Sophomore Charlie Spyker (Harrod/Shawnee) was ninth in the 200 back in 2:00.64.
In the final event of the meet, Adams, Lewandowski, Lacey and Horgan were second in the 400 free relay in 3:08.59.
Wooster won the team title with 1843.5 points, Mount Union was second with 1579 points and Westminster (Pa.) was fourth 1288 points.
The meet scored the top 24 individual places and each team's top two relays in each event.
The Polar Bears will be off for the holidays and will return to action Jan. 15 home against Mount Union.
