Adams, Stanley win events, lead Men's Swimming and Diving on Day 2 of Wooster Invitational

WOOSTER — Seniors Jeremy Adams (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) and Jackson Stanley (Beavercreek) each won events to lead the Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team on the second day of the Wooster Invitational on Friday.
The Polar Bears (2-1 overall) are in third place out of eight teams with 987.5 points through 13 of 20 events.
Stanley and sophomore Ben Lacey (Lebanon) dominated the 100 fly, finishing 1-2 in :50.08 and :50.72, respectively.
Adams, sophomore Wes Richards (Pinckney, Mich.) and freshman Ben Starling (Mansfield/Home Schooled) all placed in the top eight in the 100 breast.
Adams won the event in :56.13, Richards was third in :59.40 and Starling was eighth in 1:00.29.
Junior Calob Cope (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) was third in the 400 I.M. in 4:13.59 and freshman Vincent Morando (Mansfield/Lexington) was eighth in the 400 I.M. in 4:34.66.
In the 200 free, freshman Brady Horgan (New Richmond/McNicholas) finished sixth in 1:48.49.
Sophomore Charlie Spyker (Harrod/Shawnee) was seventh in the 100 back in :55.37. Senior Chris Walton (Greenfield, Ind./Eastern Hancock) was tenth in the event in :57.95.
In the 3-meter diving, freshman Holden Cubberley (Celina) was third with with 440.80 points and sophomore Evan Sailor (Goshen, Ind.) was seventh with 299.80 points.
Northern began the day by winning their third consecutive relay of the meet as Jackson, Adams, Lacey and Horgan touched first in the 200 medley relay in 1:33.53.
In the final event Friday night, ONU was third in the 800 free relay as Adams, Stanley, sophomore Patrick Wellman (Dublin/Jerome) and Cope touched in 7:11.15.
Wooster is in first place with 1116.5 points, Mount Union is second with 988 points and Westminster (Pa.) is fourth 738.5 points.
The meet scores the top 24 individual places and each team's top two relays in each event.
The third and final day of the meet will get underway Saturday at 10 am with swimming prelims at Wooster H.S. and the diving at 2 pm at the Timken Natatorium on Wooster's campus. The finals are slated for Saturday night at 5 pm at Wooster H.S.
