Men's Swimming and Diving sweeps both relays, leads team standings after Day 1 of Wooster Invitational

WOOSTER — The Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team won both relays, had four top-5 individiual finishes and standis in first place after the first day of the Wooster Invitational at the Shapiro Natatorium at Wooster High School.
The Polar Bears (2-1 overall) scored 471.5 points in five of the 20 events and leads the 8-team event.
Wooster is in second place with 452 points, Mount Union is third with 423 points and NCAA Division II Edinboro (Pa.) is fourth 308 points.
Junior Calob Cope (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) placed second in the 500-yard free in 4:49.09. Sophomore Patrick Wellman (Dublin/Jerome) won the B Final to finish ninth in 4:56.93
In the 200 I.M., senior Jeremy Adams (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) finished second in 1:55.24 and freshman Ben Starling (Mansfield/Home Schooled) was eighth in 2:04.28.
Competing in the B Final, senior Jackson Stanley (Beavercreek) was ninth in 2:02.13 and sophomore Wes Richards (Pinckney, Mich.) was 11th in 2:04.00.
Sophomore Ben Lacey (Lebanon) and freshman Brady Horgan (New Richmond/McNicholas) finished 3-5 in the 50 free in :21.09 and :21.46, repectively. Senior Mike Lewandowski (Shelby Township, Mich./Eisenhower) was in the B Final of the 50 free and finished ninth in :22.03.
Lacey, Horgan, Stanley and Lewandowski began the evening by winning the 200 free relay in 1:24.27.
Northern ended the day in winning style, taking the 400 medley relay as Stanley, Adams, Lacey and Horgan won in 3:28.84.
The meet scores the top 24 individual places and each team's top two relays in each event.
Day 2 of the meet will begin on Friday at 10 am with swimming prelims at Wooster H.S. and the diving at 2 pm at the Timken Natatorium on Wooster's campus. Day 2 swimming finals are slated for Friday night at 6 pm at Wooster H.S.
The final day will be held on Saturday at both facilities.
