Men’s Swimming & Diving claims 14 top-five finishes, places third in Calvin (Mich.) Quad Invitational

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team claimed 14 top-five finishes, including a trio of victories, over the course of the three-session Calvin (Mich.) Quad Invitational on Friday and Saturday to end the weekend third in a four-team field inside the Venema Aquatic Center.
The Polar Bears scored 631 points over the two-day event, topping fourth-place Carthage (Wis.), which scored 630 points. Meet host Calvin (Mich.) won the team championship with 1,441 points, while Albion (Mich.) finished second with 738 points.
Senior Jeremy Adams (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) headlined Northern's performances, scoring two first-place finishes.
Adams, the two-time reigning Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week, won the 100-yard breast in :59.56 and the 200-yard breast in 2:11.86.
Freshman Holden Cubberley (Celina) earned ONU's other top finish, placing first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 237.55.
The Polar Bears also scored three second-place and five third-place finishes.
Junior Calob Cope (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) placed second in the 500-yard free in 4:55.48, sophomore Ben Lacey (Lebanon) placed second in the 200-yard fly in 1:56.66, and Cubberley placed second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 279.70.
Adams placed third in the 200-yard I.M. in 2:00.32, Cope placed third in the 1,650-yard free in 17:14.78, and sophomore Evan Sailor (Goshen, Ind.) placed third in the 3-meter dive with a score of 203.25.
The Polar Bears also recorded third-place finishes in the 200-yard free and 200-yard medley relays with times of 1:25.61 and 1:37.15, respectively.
The 200-yard free relay team consisted of Adams, Lacey, senior Mike Lewandowski (Shelby Township, Mich./Eisenhower) and freshman Brady Horgan (New Richmond/McNicholas).
That quartet placed fourth in the 400-yard free relay with a time of 3:14.48.
Lacey placed fifth in the 50-yard free in :21.47, and the 400-yard medley relay team of Adams, Horgan, sophomore Charlie Spyker (Harrod/Shawnee) and senior Jackson Stanley (Beavercreek) placed fifth in 3:39.04.
The Polar Bears now enter a roughly one-month break before returning to the pool for the three-day Wooster Invitational on Dec. 2-4.
