Men’s Swimming & Diving earns 6 first-place finishes, falls to Hope (Mich.)

HILLSDALE, Mich. — The Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team achieved first-place finishes in six events in Saturday's dual meet against Hope (Mich.) but ended up falling 168-129 at Jack McAvoy Natatorium.
The Polar Bears (1-1 overall, 1-0 OAC) got two wins apiece from senior Jeremy Adams (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) and freshman Brady Horgan (New Richmond/McNicholas).
Sophomore Ben Lacey (Lebanon) scored one win for ONU.
Adams won the 100-yard breast in 1:00.47 and the 200-yard breast in 2:14.97, while Horgan won the 50-yard free in :21.95 and the 100-yard free in :48.09, and Lacey won the 100-yard fly in :52.74.
The Polar Bears' 200-yard medley relay team of senior Jackson Stanley (Beavercreek), Adams, Lacey and Horgan also finished first in a time of 1:38.07.
ONU also scored seven second-place finishes.
Adams placed second in the 200-yard I.M. in 2:02.56, Lacey placed second in the 200-yard fly in 1:58.66, Stanley placed second in the 100-yard back in :58.12, and junior Calob Cope (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) placed second in the 1,000-yard free in 10:42.13.
The 400-yard free relay team of sophomore Charlie Spyker (Harrod/Shawnee), Horgan, Stanley and senior Mike Lewandowski (Shelby Township, Mich./Eisenhower) placed second with a time of 3:19.68.
Freshman diver Holden Cubberley (Celina) also earned second-place finishes in the 1- and 3-meter diving events, scoring 245.78 and 246.95 points, respectively.
Saturday's victory improved Hope (Mich.) to 1-0 on the season.
The Polar Bears will return to the pool on Saturday when they host OAC foe John Carroll at the ONU Sports Center at 1 p.m. for their first home meet of the season.
