He, Huey guide Men's Swimming and Diving on day one of Calvin (Mich.) Invitational

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Senior Pete He (Mason) and junior Nolan Huey (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge) claimed an individual event title and a runner-up finish, respectively, leading the Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving program to eight top-ten finishes during day one of the Calvin (Mich.) Invitational Friday evening.
He captured Ohio Northern's lone event title through the meet's first six events in the 50-yard free, touching the wall in :21.43 to edge Carthage's (Wisc.) Mitch Mages by just .03 seconds.
One race prior, Huey notched a second-place effort in the 200 individual medley with a 1:58.34 clocking. The junior only trailed Calvin's Ben Holstege who secured the event title in 1:56.84.
The duo would pair up with freshmen Jeremy Adams (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) and Justin DeLano (Englewood/Northmont) in the 400 medley relay to finish fourth in 3:35.25.
The Polar Bears would receive a second top-ten effort in the same event when the team of junior Ryan Groehl (Marysville), senior Anthony Ferrell (Canton/Glen Oak), freshman Jackson Stanley (Beavercreek), and senior Justin Chapman (Springboro) claimed seventh in 3:40.93.
He's night would also include a fourth-place result in the 200 free relay with teammates Jack Kessler (Catawba Island/Port Clinton), Zach Ayres (Chillicothe), and Chapman. The quartet finished the evening's first event in 1:27.52, trailing the top team from Calvin by three seconds.
Meanwhile, senior diver Jacob Cordle (Lancaster) wound up fifth in the one-meter diving competition Friday evening, posting a 237.50 with his six dives.
Chapman and Adams would round out the first night's top-10 performances, finishing seventh in the 50 free in :22.03 and eighth in the 500 free in 5:01.43, respectively.
The Polar Bears will return to Venema Aquatic Center on Saturday for the final two sessions in the Calvin (Mich.) Invitational. The morning session kicks off at 10 a.m. with the evening session set to begin at 4 p.m.
