CHICAGO, Ill. — Ohio Northern senior Braden Kuhn (Tiffin/Columbian) finished 26th on the 1-meter board on the first day of the 2018 NCAA Division III Central Regional Diving Championships on Friday evening at the University of Chicago's Myers-McLoraine Pool.
Kuhn was 26th of 27 divers with 338.70 points on his 11 dives.
"Today was a new experience for Braden," ONU head coach Peggy Ewald said. "He's made a few adjustments to the atmosphere at this level of competition. Everyone comes in to meet with such a different scoring array to one of equal level. Everyone here is judged by the same sets of scoring panels made up of the diving coaches. It presents new perspectives and levels things out more. He can be proud of his performance today. He'll be ready for 3-meter tomorrow."
Heath Ogawa of Lake Forest (Ill.) won the title with 523.90 points, Jacob Burris of Albion (Mich.) was second with 456.40 points and Dylan Glumac-Berberich of Wisconsin-Wau Claire was third with 445.05 points.
The divers will wrap up the Central Regionals with the 3-meter diving on Saturday at 4 pm.
A total of 24 divers from the four regional championships, including eight from the Central Regional, will qualify for the NCAA III Championships on March 21-24 in Indianapolis, Ind.
