ADA — Ohio Northern sophomore Nolan Huey (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge) just missed on qualifying for the 2018 NCAA III Swimming & Diving Championships.
The 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Swimmer of the Year nearly made the NCAA Championships field in three separate events after setting NCAA "B" Cuts and winning OAC titles in the 200 I.M., the 400 I.M. and the 200 fly.
The 16 fastest swimmers in each event qualified for the NCAAs.
Huey was 28th in the 200 I.M. in 1:51.10 and missed the NCAA field by just .52 of a second.
He also finished 32nd in the 400 I.M. in 3:59.65 and was just 1.41 seconds slower than the final qualifier and was 34th in the 200 back in 1:49.93, just under a second off the final qualifying mark in the event.
Senior Braden Kuhn (Tiffin/Columbian) will compete at the NCAA III Central Region Diving Championships Friday and Saturday at the University of Chicago.
As many as 80 divers are expected to compete at four regional sites for 24 total bids to the NCAA III Championships March 21-24.
More details regarding the 1- and 3-meter diving competitions will be announced by the NCAA on Thursday.
