Nolan Huey sets school record in 200-meter backstroke, leads Men's Swimming and Diving on final day of Wooster Invitational

ADA — Sophomore Nolan Huey (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge) finished third in the 200-meter backstroke, setting a new school record in the event, to lead the Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team on the final day of the 3-day Wooster Invitational on Saturday at the Timken Natatorium.
The Polar Bears finished fifth of nine teams with 1,068 points.
Case Western Reserve finished first in the team standings with 1,899 points, while Westminster (Pa.) finished second with 1,248.5 points, and Gannon (Pa.) was third with 1,224 points.
Huey posted a third place finish in the 200 back to lead the way for ONU, finishing just over two seconds out of first place, breaking the school record in 1:52.98 to lead the Polar Bears.
Junior Thomas Golba (Dayton/Alter) finished sixth in the 200 breast in 2:12.70 and teamed up with senior Ian Simpson (Strongsville), junior Pete He (Mason) and Huey to post a sixth place finish in the 400 free relay in 3:09.64.
Senior Conor Cassara (Westhampton, N.Y./Westhampton Beach) posted a seventh place finish in the 200 breast in 2:13.51, while Simpson and He posted a pair of ninth place finishes as Simpson was ninth in the 100 free in :47.88 and He finished ninth in the 200 fly in 1:56.30.
"I'm proud of the how well this team has embraced my expectations for this season," said head coach Peggy Ewald. "We certainly didn't execute all details the way we wanted, but clearly we are on the a solid path to continue training to race at conference. We did great work this weekend. It's always exciting when things come together and everyone is feeling good about the outcomes. We will need to do more as we head into the next phase of the season."
The Polar Bears return to action after the new year, as they travel to Colorado College for a dual meet with the Tigers on January 10 at 3:45 (PST).
