Nolan Huey wins three events, leads Men's Swimming & Diving at Calvin Quad Meet

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Freshman Nolan Huey (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge) won three events to lead the Ohio Northern men's swimming & diving team at the Calvin (Mich.) Quad meet Friday and Saturday at the Venema Aquatics Center.
The Polar Bears were highly competitive against the three nationally-ranked teams that were competing in the meet.
No. 24-ranked Carthage (Wis.) won the meet with 982 points, No. 16 Calvin (Mich.) was second with 931 points, No. 21 Albion (Mich.) was third with 775 points and Ohio Northern was fourth with 750 points.
Huey swept the distance free events and won the 400 I.M.
He won the 500 free in 4:49.95, won the 1650 free in 16:52.92 and won the 400 I.M. in 4:12.08.
Senior Eric Chen (Mason), sophomore Pete He (Mason), junior Ian Simpson (Strongsville) and Seniors Logan Pfeifer (Bucyrus/Colonel Crawford) won the 400 free relay in 3:10.83.
Chen had second place finishes in the 100 free (:47.67) and the 200 free (1:47.70) and was fifth in the 50 free in :21.96.
Junior Thomas Golba (Kettering/Alter) was second in the 200 breast in 2:15.53 and was fourth in the 100 breast in 1:01.04.
Sophomore Anthony Ferrell (Canton/Glen Oak) also had strong finishes in the breaststroke events. He was third in the 100 breast in 1:00.50 and was fourth in the 200 breast in 2:17.28.
He was third in the 100 fly in :52.82 and was third in the 200 fly in 2:00.14.
Pfeifer and senior John Raker (Lebanon/Lakota West) each had fourth place finishes. Pfeifer was fourth in the 50 free in :21.83 and Raker was fourth in the 200 fly in 2:04.28.
The Polar Bears will return to action with a pair of home meets next weekend, hosting Wittenberg on Friday at 6 pm and Oberlin on Saturday at 1 pm.
Northern will also be hosting its annual Swim for Cystic Fibrosis fundraiser at both of those meets.
