Men's Swimming & Diving leads field after Day 1 of 2016 OAC Championships

AKRON — Sophomore Trevor Keriazes won the 200 I.M. to lead the Ohio Northern men's swimming & diving team into first place out of seven teams after the first day of the 2016 Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday evening at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium.
The Polar Bears have 223 points through five of the 20 events.
Mount Union is second with 181 points, Wilmington is third with 154 points and John Carroll is fourth with 148 points.
Keriazes won the 200 I.M. in 1:52.62 to lead a 1-3-4 Polar Bear finish.
Junior Eric Chen also earned All-Conference honors with a third place finish in 1:54.24 and junior John Raker finished fourth in 1:54.38.
The top three finishers in individual races and the two two relay teams earn All-OAC honors.
Senior Mitchell Murphy and junior Logan Pfeifer earned All-OAC honors in the 50 free.
Murphy finished second in :20.91 and Pfeifer was third in :21.24.
The Polar Bears started the Championships in record-breaking fashion, as Chen, Murphy, sophomore Thomas Golba and Pfeifer won the 200 free relay in 1:23.43.
The time broke the previous OAC record 1:23.57 set by the Polar Bears in 2015. It was also ONU's fourth consecutive OAC title in the event.
Northern finished the day on a winning note by taking the 400 medley relay title for the 12th consecutive year.
Sophomore Ian Simpson, Keriazes, Murphy and Chen won the race in 3:23.45.
