Men's Swimming and Diving opens Ohio Athletic Conference competition with 202-58 victory at John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS - The Ohio Northern Men's Swimming and Diving team defeated John Carroll Saturday afternoon 202-58 at the Johnson Natatorium.
Northern improves its record to 1-0 overall and is 1-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play. JCU falls to 0-1, 0-1.
ONU also extended its OAC Regular Season winning streak to 27 meets.
Northern finished first in 11 individual races and swept the competition in the relays.
The Polar Bears struck first as the 200 yard medley relay team of freshmen Gabe Dauch and Trevor Keriazes and sophomores Jeremy Preston and Eric Chen won the event in 1:38.44.
Junior Mitchell Murphy, freshman Ian Simpson, sophomore Logan Pfeifer and Chen teamed up to win the 400 yard free relay in 3:17.77.
Keriazes won the 100 yard breast in 1:01.68, the 200 yard breast in 2:18.24, and the 200 yard IM in 2:02.40.
"The men are showing us more of their potential and where they continue to need work," ONU head coach Peggy Ewald said. "They are tougher competitors and can step up easier to battles. It will serve us well to step back and seriously focus where the weak links exist."
Junior Zach Martin won the 1000 yard free in 10:37.41.
Sophomore John Raker won the 200 yard fly in 2:00.37 and the 500 yard free in 4:59.49.
Dauch also won the 100 yard back in :55.23 and the 200 yard back in 2:04.39.
Preston won the 100 yard fly in :52.43 while Chen won the 100 yard free in :48.88.
Pfeifer also won the 50 yard freestyle in :22.52.
The Polar Bears will return to the pool Friday at 5:30 pm as they play host to Wilmington at the ONU Sports Center.
