Men's Swimming & Diving leads Calvin (Mich.) and Albion (Mich.) after day one of tri-meet

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team is in first place after the first day of a tri-meet at Calvin (Mich.) with Albion (Mich.) Friday night at the Venema Aquatic Center.
ONU leads the meet with 338.5 points through five of 20 events, Calvin is second with 274 points and Albion is third with 230.5 points.
The Polar Bears finished 2-3-4 in the 200 I.M., led by junior Spencer Franzoi in second place in 2:02.47.
Freshman John Raker was third in 2:02.73 and senior Jordan Breitigam was fourth in 2:03.18.
Sophomore Zack Martin and freshman Chris Hoffman finished 3-4 in the 500 free in 5:00.66 and 5:00.91, respectively.
Senior John Beaschler finished fourth in the 50 free in :22.21.
The 400 medley relay team of junior Brian Heilbronner, junior Jason Luthman, freshman Jeremy Preston and freshman Logan Pfeifer were second in 3:40.04 to wrap up the day.
The 200 free relay team of Beaschler, Pfeifer, Heilbronner and freshman Eric Chen were third in 1:27.93 in the first race of the night.
"After a solid training trip it's nice to get back to racing," ONU head coach Peggy Ewald said. "With about a month remaining until conference, this meet is an important gauge in seeing where we are."
The second session will get underway Saturday at 10 am and the final session will start Saturday night at 5:30 pm.
