Senior All-American Jordan Bretigam sets meet record, tops NCAA "B" Cut in 100 Fly to lead Men's Swimming & Diving on Day 2 of Wooster Invitational

WOOSTER — Senior All-American Jordan Breitigam set a meet record and topped the NCAA "B" Cut in the 100 fly to lead the Ohio Northern men's swimming & diving team on the second day of the Wooster Invitational on Friday at the Shapiro Natatorium.
The Polar Bears are second of nine teams with 951 points after the second day of the three-day meet.
Case Western Reserve is in first place with 993.5 points, and No. 34-ranked (NCAA Division II) Malone is third with 740 points and Westminster (Pa.) is fourth with 632 points.
Breitigam won the 100 fly in a Wooster Invitational record and NCAA "B" Cut time of :49.47.
Freshman Jeremy Preston was right behind, finishing third in :51.02, sophomore Mitchell Murphy was sixth in :51.88 and sophomore Sean O'Neill was ninth in :52.04.
ONU also had three top-10 finishers in the 400 I.M., as freshman John Raker was third in 4:11.96, junior Spencer Franzoi was seventh in 4:17.98 and sophomore Jacob Croasdell was 10th in 4:20.69.
Junior Jason Luthman was sixth in the 100 breast in :59.74 and junior Brian Heilbronner was sixth in the 100 back in :53.16.
Northern finished an impressive 2-3 in the 200 medley relay.
Heilbronner, Luthman, Breitigam and senior John Beaschler were second in 1:35.48 and freshman Eric Chen, sophomore Connor Wood, Preston and freshman Logan Pfeifer were third in 1:35.51.
The 800 free relay team of freshman John Raker, freshman Cody Newton, junior Christopher Hofman and Croasdell were 7:08.08.
The top 24 individuals and top 16 relay teams score points in the meet.
Through two days of competition, ONU swimmers have set season-best efforts in 79 of the 81 preliminary swims on Thursday and Friday afternoons.
Northern swimmers have also has posted 21 career-best swims thus far in the meet
Day 3 of the meet will begin Saturday with trials at 10 am and finals at 5 pm.
Diving on Saturday will begin at Noon with 11-dive competitions at the Wooster Natatorium on campus.
