Men's Swimming and Diving wins home opener over John Carroll 203-68

ADA — The Ohio Northern men's swimming and diving team won its home opener 203-68 over Ohio Athletic Conference foe John Carroll Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.
Ohio Northern improves its record to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in the OAC, while the Blue Streaks fall to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the OAC.
The Polar Bears won all 14 of the swimming events to record the victory.
Northern also extends its home pool winning streak to 27 consecutive meets and has now won 23 straight OAC dual meets.
Sophomore Jacob Croasdell and freshman Eric Chen each won two individual events to lead ONU.
Croasdell won the 1,000 freestyle in 10:21.14 and won the 500 freestyle in 5:04.96 and Chen won the 100 yard backstroke in 55.36 and won the 100 yard freestyle in 47.93.
Chen was also part of ONU's two winning relay teams, giving him a team-best four victories on the afternoon.
Freshman Cody Newton won the 200 freestyle in 1:49.42.
Junior Jason Luthman took first place in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.74.
In the 200 butterfly, senior Jordan Breitigam won in 1:59.28.
Junior Brian Heilbronner won the 200 backstroke in 2:01.84.
Freshman John Raker took first place in the 200 breaststroke in 2:17.20.
In the 50 free, senior John Beaschler won 22.20.
Freshman Jeremy Preston won the 100 butterfly in 52.23.
The team of Heilbronner, sophomore Connor Wood, Breitigam, and Chen took a first place finish in the 200 medley relay in1:39.58.
Heilbronner, Chen, Beaschler and freshman Logan Pfeifer finished the day for the Polar Bears by winning the 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:27.58.
"It was exciting to open our OAC regular season with a home meet," said head coach Peggy Ewald. "The added support motivates the team. We have many areas to work on, but today's competition proved we're making progress and can continue our course."
Ohio Northern will be back in action Friday at 6 pm when it travels to Wilmington.
