Men's Swimming & Diving team, individuals earn CSCAA Scholar All-America honors for 2012-13

ADA — The Ohio Northern men's swimming & diving team and three individuals received Scholar All-America recognition in 2012-13 by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.

The Polar Bears finished tied for 28th nationally as a team with a 3.26 GPA.

Individually, seniors Marc Anderson and Drew Keriazes and junior Jordan Breitigam were named Scholar All-Americans.

The Team Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented twice annually, once in the fall semester/term and in the semester/term of the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

The Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher, for the semester or cumulative average, and have qualified for and competed at their respective national championship. The award is presented in the semester of the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

The Polar Bears won the Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season and Championships crowns and finished with an 10-2 record under ninth-year head coach Peggy Ewald.

Breitigam was named the OAC Men's Swimmer of the Year.

Breitigam, Keriazes, Anderson and junior Christian Garlock earned Honorable Mention All-America honors in both the 200 and 400 medley relay events at the NCAA III Championships in Shenandoah, Tex.

They finished 15th in the 200 medley relay and were 14th in the 400 medley relay at the NCAAs.

Breitigam also competed at the NCAA Championships in the 200 I.M., the 100 fly and the 200 fly; while Keriazes competed in the 200 I.M. and the 100 and 200 breast and Anderson competed in the 100 fly.

Breitigam earned Honoarble mention All-America honors with a ninth place finish in the 200 fly, posting the third-fastest time at the meet in his consolation finals.

At the OAC Championships meet, the Polar Bears finished with 985 points and won 14 of the 20 titles in the meet.

ONU set seven OAC records, 10 school records, two NCAA "A" Cuts and eight NCAA "B" Cuts in the three days of the meet.
