Men's Soccer gets two goals each from Parker, Minch in 6-1 victory at Marietta

MARIETTA — Juniors Ryan Parker (Lexington) and Kellan Minch (Beavercreek) each scored two goals to lead the Ohio Northern men's soccer team to a 6-1 victory at Marietta in the regular season finale at the Marietta Soccer Field on Saturday night.

The Match

• Parker got Ohio Northern on the board just 7:19 gone in the contest off an assist from junior Ryan Sommerfeld (Dublin/Coffman).
• Sommerfeld scored just 1:08 later and it was 2-0 Polar Bears at intermission.
• Northern exploded for three goals in 10:11 early in the second half to increase its lead to 5-0 in the 57th minute.
• Minch scored off an assist from junior Gavin Marshall (Troy) with 1:36 gone in the second half.
• Minch made it 4-0 at the 50:13 mark off an assist from freshman Colin Gottron (Dayton/Centerville).
• Parker got his second goal of the night off an assist senior Will Shaffer (Galena/St. Francis DeSales) to wrap up the scoring spurt with 56:47 gone.
• Senior Cade Winchester (Knoxville, Tenn./Alcoa) gave ONU a 6-0 lead with 16:22 left in the match off an assist from senior Jacob Grant (Westerville/North).
• Marietta ruined the shutout with a goal at the 81:47 mark.
• Junior Lucas Hickey (Conroe, Tex./Oak Ridge) played 84 minutes in goal for ONU.
• The Polar Bears out-shot the Pioneers 21-7 and finished with an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.

Notables

• Ohio Northern finished the regular season in second place in the OAC Standings and will be the No. 2 seed in next week's 6-team OAC Tournament.
• As the No. 2 seed, ONU receives and a first-round bye and home semifinal game on Thursday against the winner of Tuesday's quarterfinal contest between Marietta and Mount Union.
• Sommerfeld's goal increased his season total to 11. He leads the team in goals this season and has a team-high 26 points. He has 41 career points on 16 goals and 9 assists.
• Minch now has 6 goals this season.
• Fifth-year head coach Chris Matejka is now 54-26-14 at ONU.
