Offensive onslaught leads Men's Soccer to 10-1 victory at Heidelberg

TIFFIN — The Ohio Northern men's soccer team scored twice in the first nine minutes of play and went on to a 10-1 victory at Heidelberg on Wednesday afternoon to remain unbeaten in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

- The Polar Bears scored just 3:37 into the contest when freshman Colin Gottron (Dayton/Centerville) scored on a breakaway to make it 1-0. The goal was assisted by junior Nolan Schirmer (Amelia/West Clermont).
- Junior Ryan Parker (Lexington) made it 2-0 with a goal at the 8:11 mark of the half off an assist from sophomore Alex Shaffer (Galena/St. Francis DeSales).
- Junior Tanner Locke (Canton, Mich./Salem) made it 3-1 with a goal in the 29th minute.
- Junior Brenden Gervers (Grand Blanc, Mich.) made it 4-1 with a goal in the 39th minute. His goal was assisted by junior Kellan Minch (Beavercreek) and sophomore Gage Foster (Mason).
- Junior Nate Gottron (Centerville) gave the Polar Bears a 5-1 lead with a goal assisted by Foster and Minch with 3:29 left in the half.
- Minch scored in the 61st minute off an assist from Nate Gottron to make it 6-1.
- Shaffer scored in the 64th minute and it was 7-1.
- Minch scored his second goal of the match 1:15 later off assists from Parker and junior Jacob Grant (Westerville/North) to extend the lead to 8-1 65:01 into the match.
- Senior Cade Winchester (Knoxville, Tenn./Alcoa) converted a penalty kick with 6:52 left in the match.
- Junior Gavin Marshall (Troy) wrapped up the scoring with 2:53 left in the contest on a goal assisted by freshman Aidan McMahon (Naperville, Ill./North).
- Junior Lucas Hickey (Conroe, Tex./Oak Ridge) played 63 minutes in goal for ONU.
- The Polar Bears out-shot the Student Princes 38-2 in the game, including a 20-1 advantage in the first half, and had a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
