ADA — The Ohio Northern men's soccer team closed out its non-conference schedule with a 1-1 draw with Trine (Ind.) on Wednesday night at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears (5-2-2 overall) got a late goal from junior Cade Winchester (Knoxville, Tenn./Alcoa) to tie the score after the Thunder (5-3-1 overall) had taken the lead during the latter stages of the first half.
ONU out-shot Trine by a 5-3 margin in the first half but trailed 1-0 at halftime after the Thunder got a goal from Gavin Hardy on an assist from Francesco Mazzei in the 41st minute.
Trine continued to hold the lead throughout much of the second half before Winchester knotted the score with an unassisted goal in the 79th minute en route to the 1-1 draw.
That marked Winchester's first goal of the season, giving the Polar Bears 11 different goal-scorers on the year.
ONU finished Wednesday's game with an 8-4 edge in shots and a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Polar Bears return to the field on Saturday to open Ohio Athletic Conference play at Mount Union at 1 p.m.
