NORTHOLT, United Kingdom — Sophomore Ryan Parker (Lexington) had a hand in a pair of goals as the Ohio Northern men's soccer team improved to 2-0 on its international trip to the UK with a 2-0 victory over Hammersmith FC on Thursday night at Alec Reed Academy.
The Polar Bears are on a 10-day trip to the UK and played in the second of four matches scheduled during the trip.
The teams played two 40-minute halves as the London traffic caused ONU to arrive late.
After a scoreless first half, sophomore Tanner Locke (Canton, Mich./Salem) knocked in a rebound off a shot from Parker in the 64th minute to give Ohio Northern a 1-0 lead.
Parker found the net next off an assist from sophomore Noah Zebrak (Cleveland/St. Ignatius) in the final minutes of the match to make it 2-0.
The tough, experienced Hammermsith squad was made up of just 11 men and had no goalie, so two of ONU's four goalies each played a half for the hosts.
Ohio Northern is slated to play its third match on Monday evening against a team from Falkirk, Scotland before wrapping up competition on Tuesday evening against Stirling Albion FC in Stirling, Scotland.
