Men's Soccer begins UK trip with 6-2 victory over Aldershot FC

SURREY, United Kingdom — Senior Aaron Shelton (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon) scored twice in the first 14 minutes and senior Levi King (Indianapolis, Ind./Chatard) added two goals and an assist as the Ohio Northern men's soccer team opened its 2022 trip to England and Scotland with a 6-2 victory over Aldershot FC on Wednesday afternoon at the University of Surrey.
The Polar Bears are on a 10-day trip to the UK and played in the first of four matches scheduled during the trip.
Shelton scored just six minutes in on a shot off a cross from senior Jeff Firestone (Brecksville/Brecksville-
Eight minutes later, King send a corner kick into the box, which Shelton headed past the goalie from 5 yards out to make it 2-0.
King made it 3-0 with a blast off a turnover from 20 yards out in the 28th minute.
Aldershot hit the post in the 36th minute before pulling within 3-1 with a goal two minutes later.
The Polar Bears finished the half strong as sophomore Nate Gottron (Centerville) scored off an assist from senior Ryan Augustine (Gibsonia, Pa./North Catholic) in the 41st minute and sophomore Ryan Parker (Lexington) scored in the 43rd minute to make it 5-1 at halftime.
King made it 6-1 with a penalty kick goal in the 69th minute before Aldershot ended the scoring in the 86th minute.
Ohio Northern is slated to play its second match on Thursday evening against a team from Hammersmith after touring Windsor Castle in the afternoon.
