ADA — The Ohio Northern men's soccer team put on an offensive clinic Saturday night at Kerscher Stadium to extend its win streak to 10 games. The Polar Bears defeated Muskingum 8-0 to improve to 11-2-1 overall and 3-0-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
Seven different Polar Bears registered a goal. Sophomore Seth Gundlach (Wilmington) led the way with his fifth and sixth scores of the season. Senior Luke Fickenworth (Cincinnati/Anderson), junior Beelal Hasan (Worthington), senior Takashi Yuzawa (Shizouka, Japan), freshman Aaron Shelton (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon), senior Noah Bachwitz (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North) and freshman Daunte George (Bellefontaine) had the other five goals.
Gundlach netted the game's first goal in the fifth minute off a feed from junior Jimmy Walkinshaw (Plymouth, Mich./Canton). Walkinshaw also assisted on the game's second goal, as he set up Fickenworth in the 10th minute.
Hasan made it 3-0 on an assist from Levi King (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central), and Yuzawa took it in himself in the 32nd minute to cap the first-half scoring.
Gundlach — much like he did in the first half — kickstarted the Polar Bears in the second half with an unassisted score in the 53rd minute. Shelton logged a goal less than a minute later off a feed from Walkinshaw. Bachwitz scored in the 61st minute off a feed from George, and Gundlach assisted on George's score in the 84th minute.
Northern recorded 30 shots in all, while the Muskies had just two. ONU sophomore goaltender John Lombardo (Solon) had to make one save for his eighth shut out of 2019.
The Polar Bears travel to Wilmington Wednesday.
