ADA — The Ohio Northern men's soccer team, backed by another stout defensive performance, extended its win streak to nine games Wednesday at Kerscher Stadium. The Polar Bears shut out Baldwin Wallace 1-0 to improve to 10-2-1 overall and 2-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
ONU midfielder Levi King (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) added to his impressive sophomore campaign with the game's only goal. King scored his team-leading seventh goal unassisted in the 10th minute, besting Yellow Jackets' goaltender Patrick Mehal.
ONU sophomore goaltender John Lombardo (Solon) made King's score stand up. Lombardo registered two saves on the night, as the Yellow Jackets logged seven shots in all.
The Polar Bears recorded 15 shots, four of them on frame. King boasted four shots, junior Jimmy Walkinshaw (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) had three, while Luke Fickenworth (Cincinnati/Anderson) and Zach Yoder (Goshen, Ind./Northridge) registered two apiece.
The shut out was Northern's sixth of the season and fifth during the nine-game win streak — its longest win streak since 2013. During that stretch, the Polar Bears have outscored their foes by a combined score of 21-3.
ONU will remain at home and host Muskingum Saturday at 7 p.m.
