TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Ohio Northern men's soccer program picked up its fifth straight victory Saturday evening, upending Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Rose-Hulman (Ind.) 2-0 at the Rose-Hulman Intramural Fields in Terre Haute, Indiana.
With the victory, the Polar Bears improve to 6-2-1 overall on the season while the Fightin' Engineers drop to 2-4-1.
Sophomore defender Beelal Hasan (Westerville/Thomas) netted his team-best eighth goal of the season while freshman midfielder Levi King (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) tallied his sixth strike of 2018, supplying the offense needed to secure the road win.
Just seven minutes into the match, Hasan would put Northern on the scoresheet on a delivery from junior John Sternasty (Akron/Revere). The first half brace would mark his third score of the weekend after producing a pair of goals Friday at Anderson (Ind.).
Following the halftime break, King notched a 49th minute goal off a pass from senior Anthony DeNoi (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) to double the ONU lead. The freshman midfielder has now scored in four consecutive matches dating back to a match against Oberlin on September 15.
Hasan led the Polar Bears with three shots on the day while King followed closely behind with two shot attempts.
In net, freshman goalkeeper John Lombardo (Solon) made just one save en route to his fourth straight victory and first career shutout.
Ohio Northern would manage an 8-5 shots advantage on Saturday, including a 3-1 shots on goal edge. ONU would also register four corner kicks while the Fightin' Engineers took just two.
The Polar Bears will now turn their focus to the 2018 nonconference finale scheduled for Wednesday evening when they take on Adrian (Mich.). Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Docking Stadium in Adrian, Michigan.
