ADA – The Ohio Northern men's soccer program was projected to finish fourth overall in the Ohio Athletic Conference during the 2018 season by the conference's 10 head coaches, the league office announced Tuesday morning with the release of the OAC Coaches Preseason Poll.
Northern received 38 total points in this year's edition of the poll, which put the team just two points shy of second place.
No. 11-ranked Otterbein was selected to repeat as regular season champions in 2018 as they garnered 48 points and six first-place votes to top the poll. No. 24 John Carroll and Capital received 40 and 39 points, respectively, for second and third while each also tallied two first-place votes.
The poll mentions just six of the 10 conference institutions each season based upon the top overall point totals received in voting.
The Polar Bears would finish their 2017 campaign with solid 12-6-2 overall and 5-3-1 conference records. The team would reach the OAC Tournament quarterfinals before bowing out of the postseason with a 1-0 loss to Marietta.
Ohio Northern will open their 2018 regular season slate with a southern journey to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Transylvania University (Ky.). Match time is set for 7:00 p.m on Saturday, September 1.
