Men's Soccer lands seven Academic All-OAC honorees

ADA — Seven members of the Ohio Northern men's soccer team have been dubbed Academic All-OAC honorees for the 2017 season.
Seniors Chris Garbig (Wilder, Ky./Highlands), Ben Conkin (Maumee/Anthony Wayne), Cory Lains (Zionsville, Ind.) and Mac Tompkins (Fairview, Pa.), and sophomores Luke Fickenworth (Cincinnati/Anderson), Jimmy Walkinshaw (Plymouth, Mich./Canton), and Noah Bachwitz (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North) all earned the honor.
The award winners must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50.
Garbig, an Accounting major from Wilder, Ky., earned the honor for the third time in his career.
The senior is also a 2-time OSCA Academic All-Ohio honoree and Second Team NSCAA Scholar All-American. Garbig is also a 2-time First Team All-OAC member.
Conkin, a Mechanical Engineering major from Anthony Wayne, earned the second Academic All-OAC honor of his career.
The senior appeared in six games this season and scored one goal for Northern.
Lains, a Pharmaceutical Business major from Zionsville, Ind., was named Academic All-OAC for the third time in his three years of eligibility.
The senior appeared in 20 contests this season, making starts in 19 games. His five goals ranked third on the team, while his five assists this season were tied for the best on the team.
Tompkins, a Mathematical Statistics major from Fairview, Pa., also earned his third Academic All-OAC honor for the third time in his three years of eligibility.
The senior started in all 20 contests this season for ONU, scored three goals and added an assist.
Fickenworth, a Pharmacy major from Cincinnati, is a first time Academic All-OAC honoree.
The sophomore appeared in 10 games this season, making one start. He scored his lone goal and first collegiate goal on 10/21/17 in a 7-1 victory over Muskingum.
Walkinshaw, an Undecided Major from Plymouth, Mich., also earned his first career Academic All-OAC accolade.
The sophomore appeared in ONU's first contest before being sidelined for the remainder of the season due to an injury.
Bachwitz, a Construction Management major from Buffalo, N.Y., was named Academic All-OAC for the first time in his career.
The sophomore appeared in 16 games this season and recorded an assist for ONU.
The Polar Bears (12-6-2 overall) concluded their season in the quarterfinals of the OAC Tournament after dropping a 1-0 decision to Marietta.
