Seniors J.J. Fortner, Chris Garbig, Mac Thompkins named CoSIDA Academic All-District in Men's Soccer for 2017

ADA — Ohio Northern seniors J.J. Fortner (Maumee/Anthony Wayne), Chris Garbig (Wilder, Ky./Highlands) and Mac Tompkins (Fairview, Pa.) were named First Team Academic All-District in men's soccer for 2017 by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
All three men will now advance to the Academic All-America ballot, which will be announced on Dec. 5.
Fortner, a pharmaceutical and health care business major, led the Polar Bears in scoring this season with 14 goals and 30 points from his midfield position.
In 59 career matches, Fortner scored 23 goals and 53 career points while starting 40 times.
Garbig is a midfielder majoring in accounting. He had two goals and two assists for six points as a defensive-minded midfielder this year.
Prior to this season, Garbig was named First Team All-OAC, First Team NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region, and First Team OSCA All-Ohio in 2016. The senior was also named Academic All-OAC, OSCA First Team Academic All-Ohio, and Second Team NSCAA Scholar All-America in 2016.
Garbig played in 83 matches with 81 starts and finished with nine goals, 13 assists and 31 points in his career.
Tompkins, a mathematical statistics major, scored three goals and had seven points while playing defense this season.
He played in 61 matches in his career with 22 starts and finished with three goals, three assists and nine points.
All three men have been named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference in their careers.
The Polar Bears finished their 2017 season with a solid 12-6-2 record and tied for third in the OAC with a 5-3-1 league record under 20th-year head coach Brent Ridenour.
