TIFFIN — Three second half goals propelled No. 4-ranked Ohio Northern to a 3-0 victory at Heidelberg in an Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer match on Tuesday afternoon at Peaceful Valley.
The Polar Bears remain undefeated at 13-0-2 on the season and are 3-0-1 in OAC play, while the Student Princes fall to 5-7-0, 2-2-0.
Freshman Jimmy Walkinshaw (Plymouth, Mich./Canton), senior Matt Kinkopf (Hamilton/Cincinnati Christian), and junior Chris Garbig (Wilder, Ky./Highlands) each scored goals for ONU.
After a scoreless first half, Northern got on the board first when Garbig received a pass from senior Brandon Homan (Napoleon) and scored just 1:10 into the second half to give ONU a 1-0 lead.
Walkinshaw made it 2-0 when he scored off a free kick from outside the box in the 60th minute.
Kinkopf got an insurance goal with 5:23 left in the match when he tapped in a cross from senior David Janusz (Oregonia/Lebanon).
Junior Dean McNeil (Medina) had four saves to register his 25th career shutout and his 10th of the season.
Ohio Northern outshot Heidelberg 16-10 and won the corner kick tally 2-1.
